HOW TO MAKE PEACE IN DECOR

Put on your helmets ladies and men you might need a bullet proof vest to live this one through. The Battle of the sexes has begun! And it´s a war not even a good few men might win - - men versus women in decor — and even though we love the song by Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong ¨Let´s call this whole thing off¨ that said as follows: You like potato and I like potahto,You like tomato and I like tomahto Potato, potahto, Tomato, tomahto. Let's call the whole thing off…. I say let´s not just yet and let´s get creative in having fun in how we can make this war come to an end as we begin a stylish space that is perfect for both sexes.

Now we all know the ladies like to have all the say in the home décor, and after they create a full girly-like environment they wonder why their man is never home and out with the boys or caved in at work. Ladies please would you like to stay home if it looked like a sports bar? Lets learn to compromise without sacrificing your style, space or gender comfort. In other words lets dance this project off with both individual rhythms and how can we do this? Well, let’s play a little game… First let´s have both of you write in a paper 3 types of your personality, they can be:  a) Roughed Casual  b) Bohemian Chic  c) Office Chic…. Now let´s have both of you dress like the first type of personality like the examples below and I want you to pay attention to the following:

If she dressed like the picture above and your partner does not necessarily like to have a green huge couch you may add a touch of green with a plant or something subtle, the animal print belt is represented with the giraffe animal accessory on top of the entrance armoire, now pay attention to the ring. the ring is represented with the art work which works beautifully over a white wall... Now the space is neutrally beautiful for both sexes to feel comfortable in their own skin…
Another tip is each of you choose a space which best suites your personality, the entrance for example could work great for the woman since she should be the hostess of the home.

In this example taking note of the kind of jewellery she wore we can apply that to the lamp, pick a trendy and fun lamp that both of you like. The jeans and the blouse can play part in the artwork chosen for the space and the purse can be applied to the space by two side benches with animal print.

This beautiful outfit above being my favourite and the easiest to do because of the navy blue colour and the print of the dress. Now pay attention in how you can apply the print in the armchair, curtains or pillows, the jewellery with the lamps and side tables, the leather purse to trims of the couch, table top surface colour or rug... are you getting a hang of it? Cause I am thrilled once again to play this game and make everyones life easier... Ok, ok, ok, now when the game was getting fun it can only get funner with the Macho man part...… So take a look!

If He is the kind of man who is elegant, trendy and is not scared to take risks in colour but still wants to keep his macho man on two feet, we can apply a bit of accent colour in the space like the kitchen stools, and why the kitchen if he is a man? Well, ladies like my grandmother always said: A woman conquers a man´s heart through the stomach, so make sure he feels vey in love with his kitchen and doesn't go looking through someone else's pots and pans... The most important tip of all times, lets be wise and learn it well.

Ufff... this cool and collected outfit rocks this dinning room, making it trendy sexy to spare all the love by socialising table times away... This bohemian chic look can be well put by the following: leather belt and bag and be deliciously applied with the wood and leather chairs, the retro fun wall paper. The casual jeans can be our rough hard stepping taking wool rug, the elegant blazer can be our buffet console and curtains in the back, and last but not least keep some purity in the room with the glass table and glass ball lamp, like the eyeballs that wont keep of this room, cause we loveeee it don't we?

And last but not least, this divine way to put jeans and a basic T-shirt to its maximum power indeed! Can you tell me why? I think we have learned enough to put this war of the sexes to and end and remember that every space has a meaning and a purpose just like you and your partner in each others lives , give both the respect they deserve and never, ever stop having fun with decor or with each other... Enjoy the renewal of your vows thru your renewed loving home. Cheers to happy times

TO DESIGN? OR NOT TO DESIGN?

TO DESIGN? OR NOT TO DESIGN?

Is the question. How can we start our home decor without having knowledge whatsoever about Interior design? You do not need a College degree in interior design to be able to teach  yourself and gain self acquired talent, and that is the beauty of it. I often think that it is even better
to stay away from intense teaching on the subject since now a days we can gain most of our learning from, travel, magazines, t.v shows, and self taste. So I believe there are a few things we have to break through before we start.

1. Loose fear to try mixing color and styles.
2. Tell yourself you can be free and yet create harmony in a space all together.
3. Do not stay stuck on the same trends over and over. Try new things.
4. Most certainly do not ask your mother or mother in law before you make a decision on the direction you want to take.  Think for yourself!
5. It is very important to keep yourself updated as to what´s happening in the decor world today. Hit the books!

And you will never know, maybe you will find yourself having a great time creating great spaces for your self and others. To tell you the truth that is how
I started as well and now a days I just cant stop doing it am in love with it and I want to inspire that love in you as well and share with you some ideas into how you can get started.

The first thing doesn't have to do with buying anything. The first thing people should do is have a heart-to-heart talk with your client about their individuals priorities for the space you will be decorating, then create a master plan, on how you will incorporate their priorities with your sense of layout and style. Once you have accomplished that the rest will just logically bubble to the surface.

The most important thing to me is getting to know your client and get a feel of who they are then you give your touch of style no matter what the budget is. You have to learn to be creative and try to adjust to what their budget is the best way possible. Then you focus on the functions that each room has to serve, then logic kicks in in how the space has to be arranged.

Always have in mind that there are tips you can apply when you meet your client and that is to pay attention to what they are wearing, unless they are in gym or bummy clothes. I will teach you a few tips so you can understand what your client wants without them even telling you:

1. Sunglasses:
The sunglasses usually represent a strong piece of furniture weather it is a sofa, bed, or armoire.

2. Earrings:
These represent lamps, weather they are ceiling lamps, table lamps, wall lamps or standing lamps.

3. Shoes:
They represent rugs or pillows.

4. Pants, Shorts & Skirts:
These represent the type of fabric and textures you can cover some pieces of furniture.

5. Belts:
These represent the different styles in accessories in your decoration like: books, flower vase´s, magnifying horn glass, etc...

6. Blouse or Jacket:
These represent the art that should be placed or hung.

You will find it to be easier if you apply these tips when decorating a space, it may sound funny but trust me! it works! Now that you have learned something new, run with it and have fun doing it, always have fun doing it and the day it gets boring, try doing something scary and risky and you will find yourself having fun again.

SPRING DELIGHT

SPRING DELIGHT

How can I not mention the great designs of IKAT ? I mean... A round of applause once again for rocking this spring´s color collection, that provided us with a surge of pattern and color with bold prints. From time to time I often think that if my soul was to be in form of a fabric It would certainly be in an Ikat pattern, shape or color! There is nothing more soothing but bold filled with life in color  and texture, also with like a vibrancy to the lining... If I was to compare it to music I would probably compare it to "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles mixed with "Nessun Dorma" by Luciano Pavarotti and "One" by Swedish House Mafia. I know how random right? But I bet if a DJ mixed them all together the music vibes would certainly draw out and Ikat print, In my mind at least and I am imagining it as we speak and I am Jamming to it! Cheers to Ikat once again for making this world a better place.
